steps to change icon of a folder

Icon is a small picture which is used to represent a file or folders. Folders icon in windows is default for all the folders and all the folders looks same. But there is a option in windows 7 to change the icon of a folder. This is a very good option .As this helps to look your folders different from other users and also helps to differentiate your folders. Window uses .ico file as icon file. You can make any .ico file as your folder icon. You can download .ico file from the internet.www.iconfinder.com is a good site to search for a icon. After downloading a couple of ico files you can start the steps to change your icons of your folder.

1. 1.Select the folder of which you want to change the icon.

2. 2.Right click on the folder .this will lead to open the right context menu.

3. 3.In the right context menu go to the properties menu and click on it.this will open a properties window of that folder.

4. 4.In the upper side of that window there are some 5-6 tabs available.select customize tab among them.

5. 5.Click on the change icon button .which is available below side of that window.

6. 6.This will open a another window.which has several small pictures .you can select a icon from this pictures.

7. 7.After selecting a icon click on the ok button of that window.clicking on the ok button will close the window.

8. 8.Click ok button of the folders properties window also.

9. 9.Your folders new icon will display instantly.

If you want to make a .ico file as your icon which you have downloaded then follow this steps.

1. 1.Repeat the steps upto 5.

2. 2.Then from the poped up window click on the browse button located top right side of the window.

3. 3.This will open a open window .from this window select your desired icon file by browseing you drives.

4. 4.Click open button of the open window.

5. 5.Then click ok button of the poped up window and also click ok button of the properties window.

6. 6. Your new icon is set as your folders icon.

steps to change volume from default to between session in vlc media player

In vlc media player the the volume is set to 100 by default. So when you open a file the volume of the file set to 100.if your preferred volume level is 100 then it does not create any problem. But many users doesn’t like it. They required adjusting the volume level. But whenever they close vlc media player and reopen it the volume again change to the default volume. There is a option in vlc media player to prevent this. You can keep audio level between sessions. By doing that your volume level will be same when you open vlc media player to that level when you had closed it.

1. 1. Open the vlc media player.

2. 2.Click on the tools menu from the menu bar. It will open the submenus.

3. 3.Go to preferences submenu and click it. It will open the preferences window.

4. 4.In preferences window click on the audio icon located in the left side of the window.

5. 5.Select keep audio level between sessions option from the volume group.

6. 6.Click save button located bottom side of the window. From now on whenever you open vlc media player the volume level will be same to audio level when you had closed it.

steps to rotate video screen in vlc media player

Sometimes when we watch videos in vlc media player it is required to rotate the video screen of the video. The screen of the video can be rotated according to the angle we required. The steps to do that are here.

1. 1.Open vlc media player and play a video file in it.

2. 2.Then go to tools menu and click it from the menu bar. It will open the submenu.

3. 3.In the submenu click on the effects and filters submenu. It will open the adjustments and effects window.

4. 4.Select the video effects tab.

5. 5.Select the geometry tab from the video tab.

6. 6.Select the rotate option.

7. 7.Then select a suitable angle by rotating the knob by mouse.

8. 8.Close the effects window. Now you will see that the video screen is rotated from its normal view.

To get back to the original video screen follow the same steps and adjust the angle knob to the normal.

steps to cut a video by vlc media player

Many times we need to extract a portion of a video. It can be a song or a comedy scene from a movie or any important scene from a video. There a many video cutter software’s are available to do this task. But if you don’t want to install any software to do this task then you can do it from vlc media player. Here are the steps to extract a portion of a video.

1. Click on the view menu located in the upper side of the window.

2. Go to advanced control option and click it. Advanced controls will be added to the upper side of the general control buttons.(advanced controls can be added by right clicking on the video display.right click on the video display.a context menu will appear.in the context menu goto view menu.a submenu will open.in the submenu click advanced control menu)

3. Now click record button (the button on which a red circle is drawn) to start the job of extraction.

4. The extraction will go on till you again click on the record button. After clicking record button again the video extracted from the main video will be saved in your video folder or other folder according to your setting.

steps to open all folders in new window

By default in windows when we open a new folder it opens in the current window. This is a good thing as it helps you to not open unwanted windows and stops you from opening multiple windows. But it is also a good option to open all the folders in its own window rather than opening in the current window. This way you can track all the folders you had opened and choose them according to your need. There is a feature in windows by which you can set the folders to open in the new window. Here are the steps to do that.

1. 1.Click on the start menu.

2. 2.Go to control panel on the right side of the start panel. Click on the control panel option to open control panel. You can also open the control panel from the desktop if you had a shortcut to it.
