steps to change icon of a folder

Icon is a small picture which is used to represent a file or folders. Folders icon in windows is default for all the folders and all the folders looks same. But there is a option in windows 7 to change the icon of a folder. This is a very good option .As this helps to look your folders different from other users and also helps to differentiate your folders. Window uses .ico file as icon file. You can make any .ico file as your folder icon. You can download .ico file from the internet.www.iconfinder.com is a good site to search for a icon. After downloading a couple of ico files you can start the steps to change your icons of your folder.

1. 1.Select the folder of which you want to change the icon.

2. 2.Right click on the folder .this will lead to open the right context menu.

3. 3.In the right context menu go to the properties menu and click on it.this will open a properties window of that folder.

4. 4.In the upper side of that window there are some 5-6 tabs available.select customize tab among them.

5. 5.Click on the change icon button .which is available below side of that window.

6. 6.This will open a another window.which has several small pictures .you can select a icon from this pictures.

7. 7.After selecting a icon click on the ok button of that window.clicking on the ok button will close the window.

8. 8.Click ok button of the folders properties window also.

9. 9.Your folders new icon will display instantly.

If you want to make a .ico file as your icon which you have downloaded then follow this steps.

1. 1.Repeat the steps upto 5.

2. 2.Then from the poped up window click on the browse button located top right side of the window.

3. 3.This will open a open window .from this window select your desired icon file by browseing you drives.

4. 4.Click open button of the open window.

5. 5.Then click ok button of the poped up window and also click ok button of the properties window.

6. 6. Your new icon is set as your folders icon.

steps to open all folders in new window

By default in windows when we open a new folder it opens in the current window. This is a good thing as it helps you to not open unwanted windows and stops you from opening multiple windows. But it is also a good option to open all the folders in its own window rather than opening in the current window. This way you can track all the folders you had opened and choose them according to your need. There is a feature in windows by which you can set the folders to open in the new window. Here are the steps to do that.

1. 1.Click on the start menu.

2. 2.Go to control panel on the right side of the start panel. Click on the control panel option to open control panel. You can also open the control panel from the desktop if you had a shortcut to it.

3. 3. In the control panel window select and click the folder options icon.

4. 4.Select the open each folders in its own window option from the browse group.

5. 5.Click ok button of the folder options window.

6. 6.Close the control panel window.

7. 7.Now when you open a new folder it will open in its own window.

steps to change the color of the window

In windows 7 windows looks great. But sometimes it is very boring to watch the same old window and if you work daily on the windows then it is more frustrating. But you can change the color of the windows and taskbar. Windows 7 has a feature to change the color of the windows and taskbar. By color of the window, I mean the color of the title bar of the window and the border of the window. Here are the steps to change the color of the window.

1. 1. Right click on free space of the desktop. This will lead to open the right click context menu.

2. 2.From the context menu click on the personalize menu located in the bottom of the context menu.

3. 3.This will open the ‘personalize’ window. In personalize window click on the ‘window color’ icon located bottom side in the window. This will open ‘window and appearance’ window.

4. 4.Choose a color from the color list .you can also increase or decrease the intensity of the color from the slider given below the color list.

5. 5.Click save changes button.the color of the window and taskbar will change according to your choosen color.

6. 6.Close the personalize window.

steps to change sounds of the events in window

Like movies we can add extra effect in our daily computing by adding sounds for every action.there are several events in windows for which we can add sounds(like on maximization of window,minimization of window,pop up of a menu etc) or we can change default sound for the events of which sound is already set(like sound of log on,error event etc).or if you don’t like sounds for every event than you can also turn off the sounds.here are the steps to change the sound of windows events.

1. Right click on the desktop .it will open the context menu.

2. Select and click personalize menu in the context menu.

3. Personalize window will open.click on the sound icon located in bottom side of the window.

4. This will open sound window.in the sound window select the event for which you want to change the sound form the program events list.

5. Then select a sound for that event from the sound list located bottom side of the window.

6. Click ok button of the sound window.

7. Close the personalize window.

steps to delete files immediately without moving it to recycle bin

In windows when we delete a file or folder it does not get deleted permanently. It moves to the recycle bin. Then if we remove them from the recycle bin then it moves out of the memory. So if you want to free some space from the memory then you need to delete the file from the recycle bin also. But always deleting the same file from two places is boring and tedious. So if you want to delete files immediately without removing it to the recycle bin then there is a feature in windows to do that. But remember if you delete a file by mistake then you will lost the file permanently (though there some way to recover them but they don’t give any guarantee).

1. Right click on the recycle bin. It will open the context menu.

2. Select and click properties menu.

3. This will open the recycle bin properties window. Select the option ‘don’t move files to the recycle bin. Remove files immediately when deleted’.

4. Click ok button of the window.

From now on whenever you delete a file it will remove permanently from your computer. If you want to change the setting .then follow the same steps and select the option custom size in recycle bin properties window.

steps to change the speed of the mouse pointer

Mouse pointer speed means relative speed between movement of your physical mouse in your hand and the mouse pointer on the screen. If the mouse pointer speed is set to high then a little movement of your mouse will move the mouse pointer much on the screen. To work with mouse efficiently adjustment of the mouse pointer speed according to yourself is must required. Windows gives you this feature to change speed of the mouse pointer. Below are the steps to change the speed of the mouse pointer.

1. Click on the start menu located left bottom corner of the screen.(if you have not changed the location of the task bar)

2. This will open the start pane. Right side of the start pane are options .From them click on the control panel option.(you can also open control panel from the desktop icon if you have)

3. in control panel window the options can be arranged in three way. You can change them from the view by list available left top side of the window. Select large icons as a view. This will help to find the required option easily.
